The Magic of The Internet

Did you like this story?

The internet is an amazing thing, isn’t it? Without it you wouldn’t be reading this article. Right now, you have an unimaginably vast repository of information at your fingertips. Want to learn how to braid your hair? Speak German? Fix your toilet? You can start learning within minutes. Stuck in a game? You can look up what to do in no time. You don’t even need to leave your house to go shopping. What’s even more amazing is that with devices like smartphones and tablets, many of us carry around this information every day in our pockets. I’ve come to take this for granted, and when I realized recently (after having a short time without internet access) that I was taking it for granted, I also realized that the internet has lost a lot of its magic for me. Children born today will never know a world without the internet. It’s such an integral part of everyday life now that they also won’t know how magical it was when it was new.

When I first started using the internet it was a whole new world. Everyone uses the internet for different reasons, but for me it was initially to explore my interests further. I quickly discovered search engines and that if I typed in the name of my favourite TV show or game I could get as much information about it as I liked. Suddenly I could read behind the scenes information, download music or look at pictures. And when I had run out of things to read and look at, I discovered that I could talk to other people who had the same interests. For some of my interests, particularly sci-fi TV shows and certain video games, the internet took my obsession to a new level because it caused me to think about a subject far more than I would have had I not had webpages regularly feeding me new material.

The Magic of The Internet

It’s really amazing just how far the internet has come in such a relatively short time. Although it’s lost its early magic for me when it went from being a place I had to specifically go to for my favourite things to being with me nearly every minute of every day, the fact that we can carry around and access so much information really is magical. I’m excited to see what our world will be like in another ten years or so and just how connected we will be then.

Persistent, performant, and ever-present

Magic is a network of networks — seamlessly blending coverage across WiFi, Cellular, and new technologies like 5G and LPWAN.

The network is built to provide unprecedented coverage alongside device control and privacy. Traffic is encrypted end-to-end and is bad actor tolerant. Devices autonomously negotiate connectivity access based on quality of service and current demand. Provider and client reputation management is baked in to ensure a continuous, tamper proof, trustless environment.

With Magic, devices can hop between base stations, across networks, and spectrums without skipping a beat. Magic Client is device agnostic — running on smartphones, tablets, wearables and IoT devices. Magic eliminates the need to navigate through the complex, fragmented world of access credentials and billing workflows.

Devices pay for the data they use. Networks get paid for providing coverage and ensuring data is transported on behalf of Magic enabled devices. Settlement is tracked in immutable ledgers and requires no central clearinghouse to ensure payment.

Broadcasting WiFi networks

Base station owners – from large scale operations to you and your WiFi router — use Magic Agent to broadcast access to consumers.

The core, open-source suite handles connectivity broadcast, access, and billing for network providers.

For WiFi networks, Magic Agent is already compatible with all modern routers and can be enabled in minutes. Network providers can be anyone — you, the local coffee shop, and even your office network. Plus, privacy and encryption is baked into every connection — ensuring devices stay in their own lane on your network.

Providers broadcasting receive payment in Magic Global Connectivity (MGC) Tokens, for broadcasting and transmitting data.

The Magic of The Internet

Devices use Magic Client to automatically and securely connect to Magic networks. No need for captive portals, access management, WPA passkeys, or unsecured WiFi hotspots. Connections remain private and encrypted end-to-end.

No matter the network provider, Magic Client ensures devices connect to the best available network assuring quality of service and speed.

The Magic of The Internet

Magic’s connectivity marketplace is an Ethereum-powered DApp ensuring connectivity providers receive payment based on the service and speed they provide while consumers only pay for the service they use and need.

The MGC Token powers the future of access the Internet.

Simeon’s World of Magic

«Pick a card, any card.» Simeon’s Cave of Magic is my favorite of Simeon’s tricks. Everyone I showed it to, played the trick several times and walked away still thinking about it. How does the computer know your card? Is it the whisper? Is it the location of your mouse? If you do figure it out, remember: a magician never tells. Several of the games, such as Football Magic and Travel Telepathy, are based on logic. See if you can figure them out, and then design your own magic game!

Ask your question by typing it into the «Ask» field, then hover your mouse over the Ouija pointer (no clicking) as the Ouija board reveals your answer. «If you are disappointed with what the Web Ouija tells you, despair not: we have several others for you to try.» In addition to these interactive Ouija games, the Museum of Talking Boards houses a history of the board game. «No other single, mass-produced item quite captures the imagination of the American public like the Ouija board. Is it just a toy as many claim, or is it a portal to the spirit realm where one may find the answers to life’s many mysteries?»

Peter Answers

Thrill and confuse your friends when Peter knows the answer to seemingly impossible questions, such as «What did Mary eat last night for dinner?» or «What color is Joe’s tie?» Ask your friends to come up with a question, and then have them say the answer out loud while they concentrate on sending the answer to Peter. In order to fool your friends, you will need to learn «the trick.» There are plenty of explanations online, but I like this one best: http://www.peter-virtual-tarot.com/trick.htm.

Internet Magic Tricks

This site is a collection of four interactive magic tricks, starting with the Magic Clock Trick. «Start with your finger on the 12, and think of a number, between 1 and 12. Don’t tell me what it is 😉 Spell out your letter, moving your finger one space for each letter in your secret number.» The other tricks are Magic Disappearing Card (which is a a version of Simeon’s Magic Cave, see below), Pick a Card, and MindReader.
